Barrier Sciences Group uses a science-based approach to provide customers with a menu of quality services.  Everything we do is rooted in ethical business practices, and our primary focus is always on our customer’s specific challenges and attendant remedies.

The BSG team consists of a group of experienced engineers, architectural technologists, energy auditors, and thermographers - all of them highly trained (and certified) and with a passion for enhancing the operational performance and energy profile of the building.

The BSG approach is comprehensive and methodical.  Our 8-point building performance analysis - investigation, assessment, recommendation, initialization, management, inspection, confirmation and testing - is based on proven methodology and years of experience.

Barrier Sciences Group is always on the lookout for new technologies and approaches.  And when it comes to building envelope deep energy retrofit and weatherization, the BSG team is at the forefront - with a solution-oriented approach that addresses the challenges.

To avoid the potential for conflicts of interest (or “self serving” recommendations), the BSG team does not expedite the work proposed in our deep energy retrofit recommendations.  We do, however, offer certain (menu) services to "initialize" the process for implementing the recommended action, or actions.

During the investigation and assessment phases of the BSG 8-point building performance analysis, the team has garnered an in-depth understanding of building issues, concerns and challenges.  As a result, the team is perfectly positioned to transform project proposals from the recommendation phase into an action plan (with a controlled strategy).
 

Development of Scope of Work

Working with each client, BSG consolidates recommendations into a list of action goals necessary to resolve the building issues discovered during the investigative phase.  The Scope of Work is refined and prioritized according to the client’s budget constraints.

Development of Budget and Schedules

Project success is measured by “on time” and “on budget”.  Both of these variables are pointless without having benchmarks.  With industry experience, and team expertise, BSG provides BOTH comprehensive AND realistic benchmark schedules and budgets.

Best Practices Implementation Methodology 

BSG sources materials and methodologies to specifically meet the needs of the deep energy retrofit or weatherization program.  Client input is requested and incorporated into all final decisions.  If needed, scope, budget and schedule are reviewed/modified to suit the client.

Production of Contract Documentation

Armed with the Scope of Work, BSG produces the project specifications, drawings, contract documents and bid package.  The project is then assigned to the client’s contractor, or a request for bids is issued from a screened group of building envelope energy retrofit firms.

Selection of Suitable Bidders

The key to project success is three-fold: the right people; the right skill set; and the right attitude.  For the BSG team, the selection process is simple – suitable bidding contractors are those who are staffed by trades and workers who meet the three criteria.

Management of Bidding Process

During the bidding process, BSG can assist with the review, decision-making, and award of the contract.  In addition, BSG can produce addenda to bid documentation; participate in prospective contractor meetings; and partake in initiation and implementation meetings.
