How do I Qualify for HER?

There are a couple determining eligibility factors for the Home Efficiency Rebate. First, you must be a customer of Enbridge Gas or Union Gas and heat your home with natural gas. Second, you must live in a detached, semi-detached, or row townhouse.

An energy audit is also an eligibility requirement for the Home Efficiency Rebate. You must have an energy audit completed on your home by a Licensed Service Organization (such as Barrier Sciences Group) before any renovations have begun. If you’ve already begun renovations, it might not be too late! Contact our office right away to determine if you’re still eligible for rebates at 1-866-333-3920. Lastly, you must complete the program by having a final energy audit completed on your home. This will determine how much your home has improved since completing the renovations, and will allow Enbridge to confirm the renovations have been completed.

If you are interested in qualifying for the Home Efficiency Rebate promotion bundles, you must have an energy audit completed on or after January 1, 2020, with your final energy audit completed on or before March 31, 2020.

What is an Energy Audit?

An energy audit is one of the most effective tools you can utilize when considering making your home more energy efficient (or even just determining how energy efficient your home currently is!). It’s also the first and last qualification step in the Home Efficiency Rebate.

During an energy audit, your Registered Energy Advisor will inspect a number of different aspects of your home that will determine its current level of energy efficiency. For example, they will take a look at the attic insulation levels, the efficiency of the furnace, and will look at the windows and doors. Further, your Energy Advisor will conduct a blower door test on your home.

A blower door test is a diagnostic test that tests the airtightness of your home. A fan is placed in the main door frame of your home. When turned on, the fan will draw all of the inside air to the outside, forcing the outside air back in through any leaks around your home. During the blower door test, you will be able to feel the movement in the air where the leaks are located around your home. Most commonly, leaks are felt around windows and doors, attic hatches, exterior wall electrical outlets, and basement/crawl space headers.

Our Barrier Sciences Group office staff are happy to provide a free telephone consultation to determine if you are eligible for the Home Efficiency Rebate. If you are wondering if you qualify, please contact our office staff at 1-866-333-3920. Alternatively, you can fill out a contact form on the BSG website and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
