Peer Review

Barrier Sciences Group uses a science-based approach to provide customers with a menu of quality services.  Everything we do is rooted in ethical business practices, and our primary focus is always on our customer’s specific challenges and attendant remedies.

The BSG team consists of a group of experienced engineers, architectural technologists, energy auditors, and thermographers - all of them highly trained (and certified) and with a passion for enhancing the operational performance and energy profile of the building.

The BSG approach is comprehensive and methodical.  Our 8-point building performance analysis - investigation, assessment, recommendation, initialization, management, inspection, confirmation and testing - is based on proven methodology and years of experience.

Barrier Sciences Group is always on the lookout for new technologies and approaches.  And when it comes to building envelope deep energy retrofit and weatherization, the BSG team is at the forefront - with a solution-oriented approach that addresses the challenges.

The desire to be right about something is just plain human nature.  In professional circles, however, the desire to be right can sometimes result in a myopic view of a circumstance or situation.  And this is especially true in the field of consulting.  Given that supposition, it’s absolutely vital for the professional consultant to avoid the tendency to be right at all costs.

Clearly, a second opinion, with knowledgeable input, and objective oversight is a preferable route for decision-making.  This is particularly true in situations and circumstances where there is ample room for interpretation.  At BSG, the practise of scrutinizing information, data, assessments and reports is integral to the Peer Review service.

Peer reviews from Barrier Sciences Group are undertaken in a professional manner, based on best practices.  The team often challenges the interpretation of data, including specific recommendations that may be presented during the 8-point building performance analysis.   Peer review is always based on reliable, empirical, and validated support documentation.

On some projects, it’s been the experience of BSG that legal action is required for various and specific reasons.  In these situations, the senior team at BSG can provide expert witness testimony on a variety of issues:  building science; environmental; building envelope; and energy retrofit.  All consultants are competent, qualified, experienced, and professional.

In addition to review of data, documentation and reporting, BSG also performs on-site third party review (arbitration peer review).  Finally, the team can provide confirmation on the quality of work performed and value delivered.  BSG field staff will attend the work-site or building and assume roles and responsibilities that are applicable to the circumstances.

In bringing a methodical and thorough approach to peer review (or third party reporting), BSG consultants ensure that everything is verifiable and will firmly withstand any form of rebuttal from parties involved - particularly in the event that a dispute arises.

At Barrier Sciences Group, peer reviews are expedited employing qualified personnel – all trained and judicious – and with a focus on ensuring the utmost respect for all parties.  BSG is proud to work within recognized industry standards, protocols and procedures.
